The finer details

.....first thing first....Like every other project I have followed my car has spent way more time in paint jail than expected. A combination of unexpected problems, additional work, delays in waiting for parts and me being short of cash has caused this.But.....All in all I am delighted with my car and its been worth it. As I was saying in my previous posts I found two polish lads to carry out the body work and I can only describe them as perfectionists.

Like everything on my project  the bodywork section has been a huge learning curve for me.....I have always had an interest in bodywork and spraying cars but now I really understand the process and know right way and the wrong way of doing it. (I am not saying I have the skill to do it)

Here is one example of my pet hate with these cars. The line of the bumper very rarely match the line of the bodywork.  It’s one of the first things I notice when I see one of these cars and i wanted the body lines to be perfect.

Perfect Bumper Gaps

Perfectly alligned boot lid

Very nearly ready for paint.

In the pics, some of the body lines look a bit sharp but they will be smoother once the car is rubbed down.

Another problem we faced were the door rubbers. I bought a set but found that they were too hard and ended up doing some research to find that there was a alternative on the market that was a lot softer and allowed for a much smoother closing action on the doors.
Next is picking the black I am going to use. Metallic or non metallic?, water or solvent based?, tinters?, pearl effects?, etc etc. I thought black was black but there are endless variations of it. And the same applies to silver. I have more of less decided not to go with a metallic black as I want a cleaner look and the silver will be a bright silver. I am going to get the guys to make colour cards with 3-4 samples of blacks and silvers this week so I can choose the final combination of colours.

The next update will be after paint!!!!! Watch this space.
